BUBBLING UNDER - MARIKO

It is extremely difficult in today's competitive & dynamic industry to create your own identity, stand out as an artist and remain true to yourself and your craft. Fortunately, establishing an identity hasn't been a challenge for Mariko. His upcoming E.P, "Ba tla nkitse ka ditiro", is a strive for balance between leap-taking and staying grounded; It basically portrays him as a risk taking but also a focused individual; one whose songs are filled with wisdom which is presented in an attention-getting way.

"Born and raised in Itsoseng, I never took rapping seriously. All I ever did was write. Be it poems, short stories or even just angry outbursts onto a piece of paper; my passion has always been in writing. It was soon after picking up a basketball, at age 14, that I started writing lyrics to instrumentals I found in my elder brother's computer running an old operating system that my interest in music grew. Of course this dissipated soon after I started listening to Talib Kweli rap. My exact thoughts were: how do I compete! I didn't stop writing though. I never have. In fact I started writing a book in December of 2005 that I never got to finish."

It is in his first year out of high school that he got back into rapping (a story to be deliberately omitted).

Fast-forward [>>] I.T. professional, certified trainer, poet, self-taught graphic designer, web-designer, entrepreneur, creative writer, performer, father and uncle to many; Mariko came together with a few artists who formed and then signed to the independent label Square Root Studios where he is now also serving as an integral part of the management team.

Whilst still working on his craft Mariko has worked with Square Root Studios on the mixtape. "The Anchor", has featured a number of projects and released a single called "Mic Cheques" from his E.P. released in August 2013. "80% of the proceeds from this E.P will go directly to the CSI department within Square Root Studios; Rooting… and this is non-negotiable." says the bold Mariko.

"My purpose in life is to create a little bit of hope" is a motto that Mariko (better known as Tsholofelo Sehume) lives by. "... and that is all I want to achieve in my authorship, my musicianship and my poetry. All I hope for is that the work I produce can connect with you at various levels."

So look out for more from Mariko!

U.S. man in hot water in Dubai over parody video‏

(CNN) -- It was intended as a piece of comedy, but it's turned into a drama. A young American living in the United Arab Emirates has been imprisoned since April, his family says, for posting what was intended to be a funny video on the Internet.

Now, the family of Shezanne "Shez" Cassim wants to bring attention to his case ahead of a hearing December 16. The video in question is a 19-minute short that pokes fun at a clique of Dubai teens who are influenced by hip-hop culture. In the 1990s, the label "Satwa G" was coined for a group of suburban teens who were known to talk tougher than they really were.

The video depicts a look at a "combat school" in the suburb of Satwa, where these "gangsters" are trained. The training includes how to throw sandals at targets, using clothing accessories as whips, and how to call on the phone for backup. "It's like someone in the U.S. making a parody video of a Brooklyn hipster and getting thrown in jail for it and being held in jail for months without bail," Cassim's brother, Shervon Cassim, told CNN affiliate KARE. "That's what's going on here."

Cassim's family says Shez, 29, has been charged with endangering national security, but they've not been told what about the video endangered security. UAE authorities did not respond to CNN requests for details about what charges Cassim may be facing and why. "It's just a straightforward silly comedy video. And he's being treated like some sort of dangerous criminal, high security criminal that they need to keep under maximum security conditions," Shervon Cassim told KARE about his brother. Shez Cassim has lost a lot of weight, but is otherwise in good physical condition, his brother told CNN.

Cassim, from Woodbury, Minnesota, moved to Dubai in 2006 after graduating college to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Dubai lands Middle East's first World Expo He and some friends made and posted the video online in 2012. He was arrested in April 2013. According to the family, Cassim and eight friends have been charged under a cybercrimes law for endangering public order. This law, the family says, wasn't passed until after the video had been released. Two attempts by Cassim's lawyers to get him released on bail have been rejected.

The U.S. State Department is providing consular services to Cassim, a department official said, and has attended all his court hearings. "The U.S. Embassy and Consulate General have engaged with UAE counterparts to urge a fair and expedient trial and judgment," the official said.

The Satwa G's, the family said in a statement, were known as wanna-be gangsters, and that's how Cassim portrayed them. "These 'gangstas' were known for their decidedly mild behavior and were seen as the total opposite of actual criminals," the statement said. "The fictional training depicted in the video teaches techniques that include the best way to throw a sandal at a newspaper (target) and, ultimately, how to use the mobile phone when in trouble."At the last hearing, the judge in the case asked for an Arabic translation of the video, giving the family some hope that the authorities will realize that it was a parody. "I just want my son home for Christmas," said Cassim's mother, Jean Cassim, in a statement. "He's a good young man with a great career and has never been in trouble. Now he's being held for no reason. I've been praying, going to mass and lighting candles, and that's what I'm going to keep doing. "An average of about 2,500 Americans are jailed abroad every year, and about a third of those arrests are related to illegal drugs, the U.S. State Department says. "In 2010 alone, consular officers conducted more than 9,500 prison visits, and assisted more than 3,500 Americans who were arrested abroad," the State Department's website says.

Advice for U.S. citizens traveling abroad U.S. travelers in foreign countries is subject to the laws of those countries, and there's a limit to how much help they can get from the U.S. Embassy or Consulate there. U.S. diplomatic corps officials "cannot represent you in legal proceedings or pay your legal fees or other expenses. But they can perform many vital services such as providing a list of attorneys, assisting in contacting your family, helping your family to send money, and monitoring your health and welfare," the State Department says.

The Biggest Failure Of All? Never Trying‏

I have written a lot about failure. I am in favor of it.

Not the kind of failure where you bet everything on one roll of the dice and lose. That kind of failure is devastating because you have used up all your resources and you don’t get to try again. No, the kind of failure I am talking about is when you take a small step toward your goal and find it doesn’t work.
That kind of failure is far from fatal, and in fact can be helpful if you learn from it and put that learning to use with the next small step you take. (It’s part of the Act. Learn. Build. Repeat. Model we have talked about throughout.) So, small setbacks = Good. Large scale failures = Bad.

But there is one thing worse than large scale failures–and that is not starting anything new at all.
People can be extremely risk adverse and the idea of a venture not working out can scare them to the point where they never get underway. They keep thinking about the idea and/or maybe doing more and more research, and they never pull the trigger. Or they don’t start because their advisors are very conservative and keep pointing out reasons why they should delay and so they wait and think and refine and tweak and refine some more. Or they take too long to test the market, putting off actually beginning to the point where the competition has passed them by all these situations are sad.

As we have said before, if you think you have a good idea, get into the marketplace as quickly as you can, using as little money as possible, and see what happens. If it doesn’t work, you can always regroup.

But if you don’t try, you’ll never know.

Chris Brown Back in Rehab After Rock Attack

A judge orders the R&B singer to spend three months in rehab after it emerges he threw a rock through his mother's car window.

Chris Brown has been ordered to spend three months in rehab after it was revealed he threw a rock through his mother's car window. The Grammy winner tossed the rock through the window on November 10 after a joint counseling session with his mother, during which she suggested the singer remain in treatment.

Details of the incident were revealed in a letter submitted to the court by the rehab facility, which discharged him after the outburst. The facility's name was not included in court filings.
The letter said: "Mr Brown proceeded to walk outside and pick up a rock and threw it through his mother's car window and it shattered." The singer was discharged because he had signed a contract agreeing to refrain from violence while in treatment.

Superior Court Judge James Brandlin also added additional rules for Brown in the coming months, requiring him to perform at least 24 hours of community labour a week and to submit to drug testing.

Pepsi say sorry to Cristiano Ronaldo for 'voodoo doll on train tracks' advert beforeWorld Cup qualifier‏

The picture was posted on Pepsi's official Facebook page in Sweden on the day the Swedes took on Ronaldo's Portugal in a crucial World Cup qualifier.

Pepsi has said sorry to Cristiano Ronaldo for ads of him in Sweden as a crushed voodoo doll before his World Cup hat-trick for Portugal. The soft drink giant offered "sincere and profound apologies" to the football star after posting a photo of a voodoo doll Ronaldo tied to railway tracks.

The picture was posted on Pepsi's official Facebook page in Sweden on the day the Swedes took on Ronaldo's Portugal in a crucial World Cup qualifier. The toy doll was wearing Portugal's red strip and Ronaldo's number 7, accompanied by the caption "We're going to pass over Portugal".
Another photo showed the doll Ronaldo's head crushed by a Pepsi can and a third showed it full of voodoo needles. Thousands of furious Portuguese fans had threatened to boycott the drink.

Ronaldo, 28, had the last laugh as he scored a hat-trick in his side's 3-2 victory over Sweden on Tuesday night to ensure Portugal's place in Brazil next summer. Pepsi, who sponsor Ronaldo's rival Leo Messi, said: "Football is known for the passion it inspires and the competition is getting more intense. We never wanted to give the sport a negative connotation. "Sorry to all those who were offended by the posts. They were immediately removed. "We also offer our most sincere and profound apologies to Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese national side."

Stonehenge archaeologist shave been digging in the wrong place - for 90 YEARS‏

The 11 bluestones were thought to be from Carn Meini in Pembrokeshire - geologists have
discovered they come from another hill just over a mile away.

Experts trying to uncover the source of Stonehenge’s giant stones have been digging in the wrong spot for 90 years. It has been a puzzle for generations how the huge Welsh blocks, weighing up to four tons, had reached the ancient monument.

Archeologists were certain the 11 bluestones came from Carn Meini one of the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire, 150 miles from Stonehenge in Wiltshire. But geologists using X-rays have discovered thestones actually come from another hill – just over a mile away.

Now archaeologists, who have spent decades digging for evidence of human activity in the wrong location, are moving to the new site. They hope to discover if prehistoric man cut the monoliths from the hill called Carn Goedog and transported them, or if the blocks were carried to 4,600-year-old Stonehenge by glaciers in the last Ice Age.

Dr Richard Bevins, of the National Museum of Wales, who helped to identify Carn Goedog as the true source of the stones, said: “I don’t expect to get Christmas cards from the archaeologists who have been excavating at the wrong place all these years.” He added: “This is an incredibly exciting project and we got confirmation last week that our findings have been verified . “Getting such positive feedback was a great relief.”
Dr Bevins, a leading authority on volcanic rocks, has been studying the Preseli Hills since the 70s.

Benzema to Arsenal in January?‏

Ever since the departure of club legends Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, Arsenal have always lacked a great striking prolificpartnership. The upcoming of Robin van Persie left the Gunners hopeful of what was to come. After a successful season for 'the flying Dutchman' he later moved to arch rivals Manchester United where again he was successful.

Arsenal's answer to the loss of these top strikers was Olivier Giroud, who is in top form in being the
one responsible for finishing chances provided by a plethora of names in the midfield. He also scored the winner in the early north London derby which finished 1-0.

However, if Giroud was to pick up an injury – which Arsenal are familiar with in their squad over the years - they are limited for the role upfront. Arsene Wenger has been forced to bring Nicklas Bendtner back into the first-team fold because of a dearth of striking options at the Emirates. But, is Bendtner the answer to Arsenal's trophy cries?

A man who could be the answer is Real Madrid's striker, Karim Benzema. The French international has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu and his relationship with supporters and the Madrid-based press has reached an all-time low. The move would see him follow his former team-mate Mesut Ozil to the mirates. Arsenal were linked with Benzema in the summer as Real considered selling him to help finance their purchase of Gareth Bale, but Gunners opted instead for Ozil.

This could come as a surprise but, the Spanish giants are looking to recoup £17million for the Frenchman, alerting several Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United. Real Madrid paid £25million for Benzema four years ago from Lyon. Wenger has been known to like the French way of playing, so Benzema suits Arsenal football club when looking at it from a neutral point of view.

But, looking deeper into the situation within the club; Benzema would partner Giroud who both play for France internationally and would again link up with Ozil who will provide chances for both strikers to finish.

At a price of £17million, surely Arsenal cannot miss out on a player of his class. If the move was to happen, it would be in January, but Wenger will have to snap him up quickly as other Premier League clubs look to snatch the top draw striker.

#HOTSHOT PHELADI LETOABA

Pheladi Letoaba (19) hails from Soshanguve, Pretoria. She is currently studying Logistics at Tshwane University of Technology, and indulges in a number of activities ranging from free-lance modelling to sewing. We got to spend an afternoon with her - a very pleasant influence to have around and clearly one with great ambitions.

CCSA: What are your ambitions? What do you plan 2 achieve in the future?

Pheladi: I'm passionate about art. And everything that is beauty and/or has to do with it. I'd love to travel in the near future, which is why I'm studying the course that I'm doing; logistics. And if I can successfully integrate modelling and my profession I could reach great heights.

CCSA: I like that answer.. What do you do with your leisure time? Weekends and stuff?

Pheladi: I spend my time looking for new fashion ideas. Im currently learning how to sew. I want to design my own clothing, but not necessarily become a designer. I hang out with my friends. I love researching on my career whenever i can.

CCSA: Wow, you're focused though! Who is your role model? And how does he/she inspire you?

Pheladi: This might sound cliché but I look up to my mother. She is the kind of person that I myself would like to be when I grow up. She has an amazing heart and she never lets anything up her down, she is everything that represents a strong woman.

CCSA: Alright. Fair enough. You're a beautiful woman, there's no doubt about it. Intelligent too! How did you start modelling?

Pheladi: The reason I started in the first place was because people were always asking if I'm a model. That triggered me wanting to get in the industry, and from there that's when started going for castings.

CCSA: Okay. Thank you very much for your time! We're looking forward to working with you in the future.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CRYSTAL BILLINGS: Timeline of her past Birthdays

Crystal Billings turns 21 on the 8th of October. She's expecting a surprise from her boyfriend, who couldn't be reached for comment.

Her favorite birthday was her Sweet 16 when she went to the ice rink in Northgate. Her and her mates managed to smuggle a bottle in, and this was her first time skating! Fortunately, no 'accidents' occurred although I'm curious to know who actually slipped.

She recalls her previous birthday as being her worst. She had wanted to get together with her friends but everyone was writing a test and some were pretty broke. She had 2 buy the cake only for some not to show up. So she shared a bottle of wine and some cake with 2 friends. Not too shabby.

She plans on heading to Cape Town for her next birthday! Road trip type-of fun! When I asked her what the best thing about being a Libra was, she responded, "Best part of being a Libra is how diplomatic we are, we can see both sides of a story which makes us able to get along with almost anyone n hence people love us!" Being a Libra myself, I must agree!

CHARMA MADE2FLY: It came with my vision for success. Whatever I create I create with the intention to make it succeed, so everything I "make" must "fly", hence Made2Fly.

#ChitChatMzansi: Share with me what Made2Fly is all about that is not included in the company’s profile.
CHARMA MADE2FLY: Made2Fly Entertainment is not just a company, its a BRAND, its a lifestyle, its a culture, its an empire, its a LEGACY.Its not just a company, it's alive and has its own personality. It's a 2year old baby now and will grow to be a toddler, then a teenager, then young adult, etc.

#ChitChatMzansi: What’s Made2Fly’s watchword?
CHARMA MADE2FLY: What's "watchword?

#ChitChatMzansi: Who are your clients?
CHARMA MADE2FLY: To many to mention individually, but its mostly corporates, local government, provincial government entities, musicians (both local and from other parts of Africa), Casting directors, production companies, booking agents, etc.

#ChitChatMzansi: Through which medium do you reach your audience?
CHARMA MADE2FLY: We have the social platforms to reach and interact with "fans" and people who support us. And for our clients and potential clients, we use a medium I call "on the ground interaction" where we organize networking events, parties, outings, etc to interact with them and get to know more about their brands as well as the people behind the brands and companies. So we interact both physically and online.

#ChitChatMzansi: In terms of artist’s promotion will you consider technique over strategy?
CHARMA MADE2FLY: We're in the business of media where  marketing and advertising is what makes or breaks a project. You could be the best artist ever, but without proper marketing, your talent will be wasted. So definitely strategies over technique.

#ChitChatMzansi: What have you tried that’s working or not working?
CHARMA MADE2FLY: What's working is we attract the right kind of clients who, through their business, we have managed to sustain our business. So happy clients always come back for more business and refer more clients, that works. What's not working is managing individual talent! Its unbelievable how some individuals are just not focused, dedicated and passionate about what they do. We can only help here and there but the hunger and will to succeed has to be from the individual and its very sad how we've lost so much talent because of indiscipline. So maybe we as Made2Fly Entertainment could do more to assist and help groom local talent.

#ChitChatMzansi: Tell me something you’ve really wanted for made2Fly Ent. And how you went about obtaining it.
CHARMA MADE2FLY: I wanted Made2Fly to become an international company and we're on our way, 2 years and we have already branched out to Nigeria, Ghana and soon Angola, Mozambique, Botswana, Swaziland, Kenya, Ivory Coast, etc. So my international dream is still alive, its what I wanted and its where we're going.

#ChitChatMzansi: Can you share with me Made2Fly’s accomplishments?
CHARMA MADE2FLY: Too many to mention, but some of our highlights have been working on projects such as the Man On Ground movie premier, 2013 J&B Met, 2013 Durban July, 2012 SA Sports Awards, Chris Brown's SA concert, RKelly's SA concert, working with artists such as Dbanj, Ruan de Waal, Lira, TKZee, Didi, Nina David, etc. We have worked with people we use to look up to and admire growing up, now we are working with them directly.
#ChitChatMzansi: It’s just three Months to wrap up the year; have you been able to carry out most of the set plans for the year?
CHARMA MADE2FLY: Not even halfway! I'm never satisfied so I'm seldom satisfied. I'm content with the progress and growth thus far though, but I know and believe that we are capable of achieving 10 times what we currently have achieved.

#ChitChatMzansi: What do you have in plan for the rest of the year?
CHARMA MADE2FLY: Atleast 3 Made2Fly events before the end of the year, releasing our 1st artist (Masello - afrojazz / afropop musician) under our newly formed record label, shooting 10 more international quality music videos within 3 months and attracting more profitable business.

With Oskido on this one, May D from Nigeria came up with a house music voiced in his mother tongue. Few Video Vixens, few dance moves plus few Video effects in all brought about a cool video.

Home Coming Picnic

Spring days have never been the same in Pretoria ever since the Home Coming Picnic was introduced.
Getting bigger and better everytime, it’s no wonder people are flocking in from all over South Africa.

This past spring day Khuli Chana and Morafe blessed the HCP stage and it was one to remember. But it was another Maftown nature that stole the show, the wonder kid who has had the whole nation doing his dance. He goes by the name of Cassper Nyovest. He gave a memorable performance which will be talked about for months with his hit “Gusheshe”.

Bottle was popped, new friends were met, and friendships were revived. It was the best one you so we hope to catch you all in December for one last time this year.

MADIBA: From Brain Dead to Full Recovery‏

Following the recent discharge of South Africa's former President, Nelson Mandela from the Pretoria Heart Hospital, you would think the nation would be nothing more than happy about this but sadly or rather thank goodness they aren't? I'll let this be your take

Many believe Madiba should have died in hospital because according to them "he has served his purpose" but now the question would be, shouldn't we let God decide? Many of the other reasons given by people don't differ much, one lady from a social network posted that she has never heard of someone being in a critical condition and then leaving hospital they are just feeding us utter lies to draw away the media's attention.

Is it really real that he is still alive? Another lady mentioned that Madiba is immortal and that he will outlive all of us, this was a funny comment but it has some, if not all truth in it but others simply aren't moved by the headlines about the former president being discharged from hospital, some on Facebook and others on twitter mentioned they simply do not care.

What's your take about this?

#epicFAIL WORST TWERK FAIL EVER

The footage from YouTube shows the girl trying to attempt a far more advanced version of twerking next to a coffee table, which has four burning candles and a bottle of tequila on top of it.

Isn't it a dumb move to twerk behind a door that is not locked;knowing fully well anyone can come in anytime?

Moral of this Video, never twerk close to lit candles and a bottle of Tequilla.
